Soccer – Griezmann happy with Atleti stay

Antoine Griezmann believes Atletico Madrid’s 4-2 UEFA Super Cup win over Real Madrid shows that he was right to stay put this summer.

The 27-year-old France striker, who helped his country to World Cup 2018 glory in the summer, was heavily linked with a big-money move to Barcelona.
However, he eventually opted to stay and he believes that the success after extra-time in Tallinn is an early vindication of his decision.
He told Movistar: “I stayed because there was a good project. I have confidence in this club, in (coach) Diego Simeone. Today I saw that I was not wrong.
“It was time for us to win the UEFA Super Cup again and it was very important to start the season like this.”
Los Rojiblancos have an extra incentive to try and do well in Europe this seaosn, with the Champions League final taking place in their own Metropolitano Stadium.
Atleti are 14/1 with Bet365 to be crowned champions of Europe for the first time in their history.
