Soccer – Euro glory motivates Godin

Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin is determined to try and help his club finally end their wait for Champions League success.

The 32-year-old Uruguay international, who has taken over the Atleti captaincy following the exit of midfielder Gabi, was the subject of strong interest from a number of top clubs this summer.
However, while confirming that he has yet to sign a new deal in Madrid, Godin admitted to having unfinished business with Atletico, who have lost in the European Cup final on three occasions.
He told beinSPORTS: “It is clear that the Champions League is the great dream of everyone at this club. This season we aim to keep improving, like we do every year.
“We are preparing well, with new team-mates who will improve the team and make us stronger. We are very optimistic, very excited, for sure.
Atleti kick off their season on Wednesday evening when they face city rivals Real in the UEFA Super Cup in Tallinn, with Los Rojiblancos 21/20 with Bet365 to lift the trophy in the Estonian capital.
