Cricket – Clarke urged to keep pushing

Worcestershire head coach Kevin Sharp has told batsman Joe Clarke to keep up the good work in a bid to break into the England set-up this summer.

The talented 21-year-old right-hander missed out on selection for the first Test against Pakistan, despite making centuries against Surrey and Essex in his last two County Championship outings.
And Clarke has been challenged to maintain his fine form in the weeks ahead to remind the selectors just what he is capable of.
Sharp told the Worcester News: “It is scores that count and if you make runs consistently you get noticed.
“He hasn’t got in this time and will be disappointed because playing for his country is what he wants, but the best thing to do is keep knocking on the door.”
Having struggled on their return to the first division of the County Championship, Worcs can now turn their attentions to the Royal London One-Day Cup, with their opening game against Derbyshire at New Road on Saturday.
The Pears reached the semi-finals of the competition last summer and are 20/1 with Bet365 to win the tournament this season,
