Soccer – Silva reveals Champions League vision

Thiago Silva says Paris Saint-Germain are determined to bring a premature end to Chelsea’s Champions League dream as part of their own mission to conquer Europe’s marquee club competition.

The runaway Ligue 1 leaders have bulldozed their way into a 24-point lead at the top in Ligue 1 and captain Silva says Laurent Blanc’s men must now transfer their domestic superiority onto the European stage.
“As captain of the team I say we are close and ready to win,” the Brazil defender told the Daily Telegraph. “We know that it is possible although, obviously, we also know that it is not easy.
“But I have a lot of confidence that PSG has the quality to go all the way. I know the quality of this team, I am very proud of this team. We can do it.”
PSG host Chelsea in Paris in a last-16 first-leg clash on Tuesday – the third season running they have met at the knockout stage – and experienced defender Silva says they are determined to build on last season’s away-goals rule success over the Premier League champions.
“It’s a magnificent draw because I think we already know this team, Chelsea, quite well,” the 31-year-old said.
“They have got a lot of Brazilian players, it’s not far from Paris and there is already the rivalry.”
