Tennis – Dimitrov next up for Fed

Former Wimbledon semi-finalist Grigor Dimitrov is the next man standing in the way of Roger Federer at the Australian Open.

The Bulgarian needed four sets to see off Argentinian qualifier Marco Trungelliti in the second round in Melbourne and now moves on to face Federer, who lost to Italian Andreas Seppi in the third round 12 months ago.
Federer has won all four previous meetings with Dimitrov, including a 6-4 6-7 6-4 triumph at the Brisbane International earlier this month, and is 11/4 with Bet365 to defeat him in four sets in Melbourne.
Meanwhile, Federer was pleased with his form in a 6-3 7-5 6-1 victory over Alexandr Dolgopolov, with the Swiss maestro recording his 299th career singles win at a Grand Slam.
However, he was also wary of the threat posed by Dimitrov, saying: “There’s always a danger. Like last year the third round was the end for me, so I hope to go further this time.”
