Soccer – Townsend’s arrival pleases McClaren

Steve McClaren believes the capture of England international Andros Townsend will prove to be a great signing for Newcastle United.

The 24-year-old has moved from Tottenham to Tyneside for £12million after slipping out of Mauricio Pochettino’s first-team plans this season.
Townsend made 93 first-team appearances for Spurs in all competitions and has also played for England ten times, finding the net on three occasions.
McClaren said: “Bringing Andros to the club is a great signing.
“He feels he has a lot to prove and I can’t wait to see him do that in a Newcastle shirt.”
Relegation-threatened Newcastle’s next Premier League match is against Everton on 3rd February. They are 11/2 with Bet365 to beat Roberto Martinez’s side by a one-goal margin and 15/8 to be the first team to score at Goodison Park.
