Soccer – New striker a priority for McClaren

Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren is keen to bolster his attacking options this month after learning that Papiss Cisse could be sidelined for up to three months.

The 30-year-old Senegal international sustained a groin injury against Aston Villa just before Christmas.
Only Villa and Swansea City have scored fewer Premier League goals than Newcastle, who are 4/7 with Bet365 to be relegated this season after losing 1-0 at Arsenal on Saturday.
Queens Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin, Tottenham winger Andros Townsend and Chelsea’s Patrick Bamford have all been linked with Newcastle recently.
McClaren said: “We’ve been working behind the scenes to sign a new striker and will continue tirelessly.
“Unfortunately at the moment Emmanuel Riviere is injured and is just coming back. Cisse is injured for up to three months but we’ve got other goalscorers who need to step up to the plate.”
Newcastle are 22/1 to beat Watford 2-0 at Vicarage Road on Saturday in the third round of the FA Cup.
