Soccer – Jagielka on course for weekend return

Roberto Martinez hopes that Phil Jagielka will be fit enough to feature for Everton against Dagenham & Redbridge in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday.

The 33-year-old club captain has not played since suffering knee ligament damage in a Premier League match against Arsenal in October.
“Phil Jagielka will slowly be involved in match action,” said Martinez. “I wouldn’t say he is ready to play 90 minutes but the weekend is a good target for Jags.”
Everton are 16/1 with Bet365 to thrash Dagenham & Redbridge 5-0 this weekend and 1/2 to score in both halves against the League Two strugglers.
Martinez has also confirmed that James McCarthy has suffered a setback in his recovery from a hip injury.
The former Wigan Athletic midfielder is not now expected to be ready for a return to first-team action until the end of January.
