Cricket – Steyn absent for Joburg

South Africa’s hopes of winning the third Test against England and levelling the four-match series have been hit by the news that Dale Steyn will be out due to a shoulder injury.

Steyn has failed to recover in time from a problem which kept him out of the drawn second Test in Cape Town, having been injured in the first match of four in Durban, which England won by 241 runs.
In the absence of Steyn, the Proteas’ seam attack at Newlands was comprised of Morne Morkel, Kagiso Rabada and Chris Morris, although they will have Kyle Abbott available again for Johannesburg after he shrugged off a hamstring problem.
Steyn missed most of the recent Test series in India due to groin problems, but South Africa head coach Russell Domingo refused to be drawn on any long-term issues which are hampering his star fast bowler.
He told reporters: “All players will experience some sort of niggles. He is a great athlete. He is as fit as they can come.”
In the absence of Steyn, South Africa can be backed at 17/10 with Bet365 to win at The Wanderers in Johannesburg and level the series at 1-1 with one game to play.
