Cricket – Stewart rues Ford departure

Surrey have been left searching for a new head coach after Graham Ford agreed to take charge of Sri Lanka for a second time.

South African Ford returns to a role he held for two years from 2012-2014, having overseen the promotion of Gareth Batty’s team to the top-flight of the County Championship in his second season at The Oval.
Surrey won the Division Two title last summer and also finished as runners-up to Gloucestershire in the Royal London Cup after losing a nail-biter of a final by six runs at Lord’s in September.
“We are extremely disappointed to be losing Graham,” said Surrey director of cricket Alec Stewart.
“It was a very tough decision for Graham to leave Surrey, but we understand that the opportunity to go back and coach at international level with Sri Lanka was too good to turn down.”
Surrey are priced at 7/2 with Bet365 to be relegated back to County Championship Division Two this summer.
