Soccer – Veteran schemer Pirlo planning Real Madrid upset

Andrea Pirlo has said he is confident Juventus can finally convert their Serie A dominance onto the Champions League stage and send holders Real Madrid packing.

Turin’s Treble-chasers secured a fourth consecutive Scudetto on Saturday and are already through to the Coppa Italia final against Lazio in Rome in early June. Now the attention turns to Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final first-leg clash against Carlo Ancelotti’s men and the chance to get to the final for the first time since 1996.
“We have matured a lot in recent years, the international experience has served the team well,” two-time competition winner Pirlo told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Spanish capital giants are hoping to become the first club to successfully defend the Champions League but experienced Italy playmaker Pirlo said Juve had reached the last four on merit and would not hold back against the La Liga title-chasers.
“We play good football, without fear or awe. Real Madrid are the biggest club in the world, the most prestigious, but we have a 50 per cent chance of going through,” he added.
Juventus are currently priced 2/1 by Bet365 in the match betting and the draw outcome is quoted at 9/4. Real Madrid can be backed in the 90 minutes market at 8/5.
