Soccer – Sherwood hails match-winner Delph

Tim Sherwood hopes that Fabian Delph stays at Aston Villa after watching the former Leeds United star score the winning goal in the FA Cup semi-final victory against Liverpool.

Villa will face Arsenal in the FA Cup final on 30th May after coming from behind to beat Brendan Rodgers’ side 2-1 at Wembley, Christian Benteke and Delph netting after Philippe Coutinho had given the Reds the lead.
Sherwood’s side are 5/2 with Bet365 to beat the Gunners in what will be Villa’s first FA Cup final appearance since 2000 when they lost 1-0 to Chelsea.
Sherwood said: “When I came to the club Fabian Delph had just signed a new contract. He’s showed a lot of loyalty and he will do for me.
“He’s nicked a couple of goals for us recently and I’ve been encouraging him to do that. Hopefully he’ll carry on that way and become too expensive for anybody to buy.”
Sherwood will now turn his attention towards lifting Villa, who are 15th in the table, away from the bottom three. Aston Villa are currently 9/1 to be relegated this season.
