Snooker – McGill relishing Selby test

Anthony McGill is upbeat about his chances of causing another upset at the World Championship after knocking fellow Glaswegian Stephen Maguire out in the first round.

The 24-year-old faces defending champion Mark Selby in the second round after edging past Maguire 10-9 in Sheffield.
McGill had opened up a 9-5 lead only for Maguire to win four frames in a row to set up a decider. However, McGill made a match-winning break of 122 in the 19th frame and is 10/3 with Bet365 to beat Selby.
“I can’t wait for that match,” said McGill. “I don’t think anyone is expecting me to win. I’ve not done anything and he’s basically won everything there is to win.
“I can go out and enjoy it but the plan is to win.”
Selby is 7/1 to retain the crown he won when battling back to beat Ronnie O’Sullivan in the Crucible final a year ago.
