Golf – McIlroy expects stiff test

Rory McIlroy admits he has been handed a tough draw in the group stage of the revamped WGC-Cadillac Match Play, taking place at TPC Harding Park.

The tournament, in which McIlroy lost in the final in 2012, has changed from being a straight knockout event to one involving 16 groups of four, with the player topping each pool moving through to the weekend knockout final stages.
And world number one McIlroy, 9/10 with Bet365 to top Group 1, is pleased to see the changes in place, even if he is less than thrilled at being grouped together with American trio Billy Horschel, Brandt Snedeker and Jason Dufner.
He told reporters: “I feel like I’ve drawn quite a tough group. A few good players, a couple of FedEx Cup champions and a Major champion there.
“I’ll need to play well to progress, but I feel like my game is in good shape and I’m ready to go.”
