Boxing – Pacquiao rising to the occasion

Trainer Freddie Roach believes that Manny Pacquiao will be at his very best when he takes on Floyd Mayweather at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas this weekend.

The two modern-day greats go head-to-head for the WBC, WBA and WBO welterweight belts, with Pacquiao 4/1 with Bet365 to win by decision or technical decision and inflict a first-ever loss on the American.
And Roach is confident that he and his team have found a way of troubling Mayweather, telling BBC Sport: “His speed will overwhelm Floyd, that’s what we’re counting on. It will be very difficult for Floyd to win this fight just by running and at some point he will have to exchange.
“We’ve been working on throwing flurries of punches – because Floyd doesn’t throw on the counter until you’re done – before getting out of the pocket real quick.
“I’ve never seen Manny better than this, he’s risen to the occasion. He knows the whole world is going to be watching and he knows he has to win this fight.”
